Keep It Up!

Hey teens, great stuff here in this blog. It's exciting to hear your testimonies and that you are enjoying being a part of the group. Y'all are great. Keep pressing on to know Christ and His will for you every day, and keep on praying for and encouraging each other. When we do this, God will surely grow our ministry and influence in His perfect time.

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

Anger Week #2

Welp, tonight is the last week of the anger study for youth group. last week was real good. we learned that anger in itself isn't a sin (even Jesus got angry). the sinning part is when it comes to how we react to our anger. if you let it take over you and consume your thoughts and actions, then its sinning. it was a real impactful lesson and im sure this week will be great, too. sooo come out tonight and hear it for yourself!!! comment on the lesson too!

Parent Night!

Since Elizabeth already tackled the parent night, i'll throw the key verses from it at you guys!!

1 Timothy 4:7-8
Train yourself to be godly. For physcial training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Family Fun Night was really fun, and I can't wait for the next youth event!

Live For Jesus!!

1st Annual Parent appreciation Night

Tonight was the first Parent appreciation Night. The teens brought their parents, siblings, grandparents, and other close family to join the fun. We kicked off the night with a delicious dinner consisting of fried chicken, jojos, salad, and punch. After dinner, the families went into the youth room and were updated on what has been going on in youth group. We then played "IQ", the test of math and logic, and the parents beat the teens with a score of 4 1/2 to 4. We then went into the game room and played two rounds of the all popular "monarchy" with the teens winning the first time, and the adults winning to second. After this tiring game, we were able to sit down and play "electric fence" with, again, the adults winning.
Even though the adults proved they were a little better at the games, we all had a fun time and look forward to the 2nd Annual Family appreciation Night.

Wednesday Night Devotions

This Wednesday our Youth Group will beging a study on Anger. That is an issue that is very common for us teenagers. I know I see it a lot at school and other places with teens around, and I'm sure you do, too. So this lesson will be very impactful to everyone. The speaker for this week and next is Jimmy. I'm sure he has many good points about this subject. So, come out and find out for yourself. Leave a comment on how *awesome the study was!

Bye-bye Brent. (Eliminated from Contender 4-3-05) Posted by Hello

He has a one-track mind and is very passionate about things in his life, including religion and boxing. When he finds time to relax, Brent enjoys writing and singing country music, spending time with his wife and two pit bulls (Duke and Scrappy) and reading the bible.

From Each and Every Wound

My name is Jesus,
i am 33,
I died on a cross,
so the blind can see.

"I am the son of God"
I truthfully said,
but the government officials,
disgustedly shook their heads,
they wanted me gone,
away from the people,
becasue "I would upset them"
before too long.
Judas betrayed me,
and peter denied me.
Sadness crept over,
why couldnt they see?
they take me away,
and set me beofre Pilate,
who finds no blame,
but the people who once loved me,
keep shouting my name
"Release Barabbas" "Crucify him"
three ties they do this,
plate tries to change,
but the people insist,
they beat me and whip me,
untill i have bled,
and a crown of thorns,
was placed on my head,
they then tell me to carry my cross,
the one i would die on,
for sinners lost.
But i just couldnt do it,
the pain in my body,
in my heart, in my head
took over my strength,
and Simon of Cyrene did it instead.
They mock and make fun,
"This is the king of Jews"
"the holy one"
they nailed me up
and darkness came around,
those who tulry loved me,
had unchangeable frowns.
I cried out to my father,
"Father into youtr hands i commit my spirit"
And after i said this,
I breathed my last breath,
They wrapped uo my body,
in a linen cloth,
and laid it in a tomb,
still marked and fractured,
blood-stained red,
from each and every wound.

My name is Jesus,
I am 33.
I gave up my life for you,
will you give up your life for me?

You Raise Me Up

Words and Music by: Brendon Joseph Graham, Rolf U. Loevland

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

Beckie's Input

Romans 8:31

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Youth Night 4-13-05

Last night in youth group, we ended our evangelism study. We began with game time outside. The baseball game lasted two innings and was a tie game. After games, we went inside and Stephen led songs. Songs we sang were "We Fall Down", "Lord I Lift Your Name On High", and a few others. The Crosstrainers came over with us to sing. Afterwards, we had a discussion in our buzz groups about who we are trying to get to come to "What's The Point" and prayed for eachother as we each try to witness to these friends. Then we had Q&A (question and answer time) and Carl and Stephen answered 4 questions that teens had put in the Question Box about things from the Bible or in their spiritual lives that they wanted to be answered. After that, we had snacks and Clint shared the gospel.
It was a fun night, as always, so if you would like to attend our next youth night, come on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Everything To Me-Avalon

I grew up in sunday school
I memorized the Golden rule
And how Jesus came to set the sinner free
I know the story inside out
I can tell you all about
The path that led Him up to Calvary
But ask me why He loves me
And I don't know what to say
But i'll never be the same
Because he changed my life when He became...

-Chorus-
Everything to me
He's more than a story
more than words on a page of history
He's the air that I breath
The water I thirst for
And the ground beneath my feet
He's everything, everything to me

We're living in uncertain times
And more and more I find that i'm aware
Of just how fragile life can be
I want to tell the world I found
A love that turned my life around
They need to know that they can taste and see
Now everyday I'm praying
Just to give my heart away
I want live for Jesus
So that someone else might see that he is...

-Chorus-
Everything to me
He's more than a story
more than words on a page of history
He's the air that I breath
The water I thirst for
And the ground beneath my feet
He's everything

And looking back over my life at the end
I'll go to meet you saying you've been...

You're everything to me
You're more than a story
More than words on a page of history
You're everything to me
You're more than a story
More than words on a page of history
You're the air that I breath
The water I thirst for
And the ground beneath my feet
You're everything to me
Lord, you're everything to me

2.6.2 Evangelism

I thought that it would be a good idea to post this just so everyone can have access to it if they don't have their card around.

2 OPENING QUESTIONS
Spiritual:
1. What are your spiritual beliefs? (about God, heaven, hell, religion, etc...)
2. Would you mind if I shared my spiritual beliefs with you?
Heaven:
1. Do you know for sure you are going to heaven when you die?
2. If I could tell you in less that 2 minutes how you could know for sure would that be good news?

6 PENETRATING POINTS
1. God created us to be with Him. (Genesis 1:26)
2. Our sin separates us from God. (Genesis 6:5, 6)
3. Sin cannot be removed by good deeds. (Titus 3:5)
4. Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again. (I Cor. 15:3-4)
5. Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life. (John 6:47)
6. Life that's eternal means we will be with Jesus forever in heaven! (Rev. 22:5)

2 CLOSING QUESTIONS
1. Does that make sense?
2. Will you trust in Jesus right now as your only hope of going to heaven?

Just An Idea for The Site

I think it would be cool to post pictures in here from a youth night or just a special event. It might show people exactly what goes on and, I just think it would be nice. So if anyone has a camera (probably digital) and could take pictures one night that would be awesome. We could post them in here or whatever. If you think thats a good idea comment, or if you don't like the idea leave a comment as well. Thanks!

Camp Patmos

Well, it's almost that time again. Time for tubing, all-camp activities, water skiing, slurpies, and all the other fun stuff that happens at CAMP PATMOS. I have been going to camp for 3 consecutive years now and it is the one place that has the most fun I can think of. And not just land, lake, and pool stuff; its the worship and fellowship you have when you get there. From the first chapel meeting on Monday afternoon to the last breakfast on Saturday morning, I have the greatest urge to make my life more for Him. The great speakers they have every year really make you put your life into perspective and make you realize that you need Him more. You can never have the closest relationship with God and you should be working to make it better day by day! The stuff they tell you really sticks in your brain. I know that when I get home, all sun-burnt and tanned, I am so eager to live for Him every step of my life.
So, with that said, I urge you to get a registration sheet, sign-up, and go to CAMP PATMOS. "The happiest place on the planet"

YOUTH NIGHT IS THE BESTEST!

HEEEEEEEEY!

hey this is audrey. i've been in the youth group since i was in seventh grade and lemme tell you its made a great difference in my life. before i was just slumping through my walk with Him but when i got to the youth group something stuck me and made me realize i could be doing so much more for Him. ever since then i've been growing and am looking forward to what lies ahead. youth group is so awesome! i love it because everyone can feel like they belong and no matter where you came from or where you've been, there's always gonna be room for you @ youth group. i just love every aspect of it. you get to play games ...like ultimate football :) and have real impactful lesson times. after you get into a "buzz group" and just discuss about the lesson and how it spoke to you. im the leader in my buzz group and i am looking forward to getting more openess and i really want to dig deep into the questions and just feel unified with, not only my buzz group, but with the whole youth group. i honestly love every person there and the leaders, too! youth group is stinkin awesome. you should come!! :)

*here's some lyrics

one heart, one voice
living out love in this world of noise
my dream
and my joy giving You all i have made a choice
desperately i'm wanting
to answer to Your calling

i will be a candle in the darkness
i will be the hand of heaven above
i will be a mirror that reflects Your endless love
i will be the hope among the hopeless
where there is conflict, i will be peace
only by the power of Your spirit's living in me
i will be....
yeah i will be

Your heart, Your plan
give me Your eyes help me understand
my feet, my hands holding out living hope to every man
knowing what You’ve made me with every single heartbeat

i will be a candle in the darkness
i will be the hand of heaven above
i will be a mirror that reflects your endless love
i will be the hope among the hopeless
where there is conflict, i will be peace
only by the power of Your spirit that's living in me

i will be... gracious,
gentle
and kind knowing that Your love will
shine through mine

i will be a candle in the darkness
i will be the hand of heaven above
i will be a mirror that reflects Your endless love
i will be the hope among the hopeless
where there is conflict, i will be peace,
yeah only by the power of Your spirit that's living in me
(living in me)
i will be....yeah

Passion of the Christ

Hi, my name is Elizabeth. I attend the Brown Street Youth Group. Let me just start out by saying I love it!!! The leaders are so awesome and the fellowship is really good. I can't wait until Sundays and Wednesdays now.

We recently saw "The Passion Of The Christ" during a coffee house. Here is my testimony on the film, since that was the first time I had seen it. I posted it to my own blog and thought I would share it here...

"I recently saw the this movie [The Passion of the Christ] and can not even begin in explain to you the great impact it had on me. I remember in Sunday school how my teachers would tell us that Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins. I always knew that it was really painful and that He suffered a lot. I mean, sure, we had flannel graphs and "Resurection Eggs" to help us understand, but I just thought "Wow, glad that He loved me enough to go through that torture for me" That was when torture wasn't the key word.
The movie makers did a good job of making this movie as good as possible, but they couldn't even touch how grusome and horrible it was. It was infinity times worse. And not just physically by mentally. God poured out all His wrath on Jesus and it pleased Him to bruise His son. God turned his back on Jesus and He was forsaken by His father. I can't even begin to fathom the pain Jesus went through on the cross.
Through out all the time I saw Jesus being tortured, the thing that made me go into tears was just thinking that He did that just so that I could live with Him in Heaven. I got to thinking that I disobey for the dumbest things and reasons, which added to the pain he went through. It made me feel guilty that I am so caught up in what I want to do, I forget that I am hurting others.
I encourage you if you have not seen this movie to go and rent it. Or, read the Bible, it is more edifying. But, of course, it is good to see it with your eyes once in awhile."
