April 4 Outreach Update

Hi all, here's an update of what's going for our Easter Outreach. First of all -- pray, Pray, PRAY for God to work. Pray for those who have a part in the program, for those that will be inviting people, and those people that will be invited. We are trusting God to do something God-sized!

Here are the roles in the program:

-- Eyewitness News drama -- Elizabeth, Bobby, Becky, Rosie, Dan, Michael. We will be using the "live" interviews from last year's performance. Work on memorizing your lines (except for Liz and Bobby)!!

-- Scripture Reading -- Brittany Rhodes, Kristen, Emily, Ty, Andy, Ashley Blasdel

It would be great to have everyone above at practice this Saturday at BSBC from 2 to 3:30.

Also, remember to think about the question, "How is Jesus living in me?" We say Jesus lives, so how is He living in us? Bring your answer on Wednesday or Saturday, and it could be in the program!

Quiz Bowl for Dummies

Now, now, I'm not saying you're dummies, I'm just borrowing the name of all the "how to" books that you see at Borders, etc.. Not a whole book here, just a few things to think about (especially if you're of the Macho or A-K persuasion!).

Spread it out -- Don't wait until Saturday night or Sunday morning to cram it in! The passages are small enough that you can read it twice a day 10 minutes or less. Do this over the course of two weeks, and you'll have it nailed. Not a big time investment when you spread it out!
Details, schmetails -- Take special note of names, cities, lists, etc.. These are easy things to make questions about, so you can expect to see them pop up come game day.
Memory Verse -- Since it's worth two points, this is the key item in this year's bowl. Get it right, and you have a good chance of grabbing the bonus point for winning the week. Work together to have someone on your team ready to rock the verse on game day!

Well I hope this helps. Most of all, enjoy the Word, and remember that knowing it is the best prize. Have fun!

Youth Group 2006 Report

Hi all, the annual report for BSBC Youth is below. Note especially the last paragraph about our plans for '07.

We have a very fine group of teens to work with, and it is a great blessing to see them grow in Christ. We also have an excellent staff of adult leaders who contribute their time and talents. Clint and Kristen Adams, James and Vicki Keys and Carl Blasdel III share the teaching duties. Stephen Kozy, with the help of Brittany Harrison, leads worship music, and Libby Johnson coordinates attendance and follow-up. At our weekly Wednesday meetings and Sunday School, we taught on such topics as the book of John, handling depression, moral purity, friendships, and the truth about the Da Vinci code.

The main thrust of the ministry in the last year was evangelism. We desire to be a group of teens and leaders that see the dire need of the lost people around us, and have the concern and passion to reach out to them with the love of Christ. To that end, we formed an E-Team (“E” for evangelism) at the end of 2005. The purpose of the E-Team is to keep the youth group unified and focused reaching out to their peers. Each member of the E-Team has a role to play on the team, taking on roles such as a greeter (welcoming visitors to events), a follow-upper (contacting those who have been absent for a few weeks), or a prayer warrior. We also clearly present the Gospel at every Wednesday night meeting. We can praise the Lord for five salvation decisions in the past year.

The theme of evangelism carried into our summer events. The teens set up a BSBC booth at the Firestone Park Community Festival in June, and passed out hundreds of VBS flyers. We also gave out the Gospel by sharing tracts and Bobby Keys’ magic shows. The pivotal week of the year was the first-ever youth missions week, “Operation Akron”, in August. For five straight evenings, the group shared the Good News in “Spicertown” and throughout Akron in practical and creative ways.

We enjoyed many other rich times of fun and fellowship throughout the year. In March, we shared an evening with the Oanas and Johnsons. We had our second Amazing Race in September, and our Fall Retreat in October took everyone to the “Faith Zone”. Camp Patmos continues to provide vital spiritual fuel for the teens, as many were greatly built up in their faith at summer camp weeks. Our teens also were exemplary in their service at the Camp Patmos “Extreme Makeover” service weekend in May.

We praise the Lord that many teens are active in the ministries of the church. We aim to guide the teens to not just be in a “youth group” but a part of the church body at BSBC. Teens play key parts in the choir, nursery and Vacation Bible School ministries. The teens also put on the “Son is Risen” service on Easter morning.

As we look to 2007, we aim to continue our focus on outreach, and to start a discipleship course for new converts. We hope to reclaim some who have sadly fallen out of fellowship with the church. We are also looking into the possibility of a regular ministry to the children at the Haven of Rest Harvest Home. Please pray for God to work mightily in the teens’ lives, that they would stand firm in Christ, and that more teens would be saved in our midst.

On behalf of Kristen, I want to send along our deepest thanks for the flowers, the bulletin message, the card, and your personal notes that you gave us last Sunday. It really meant a lot to us! Your personal notes were touching (Kleenex, please) and very encouraging, even if we couldn't interpret one of them (no habla Espanol)!

While we're giving out thanks, we need to be just as thankful for the rest of our leaders. James and Vicki are superb team players -- experienced, flexible, dependable, sincere and eagerly willing to do lots of little things that aren't really little at all. Carl is our gentle giant, with a pastor's heart and a love for studying and teaching the Word. Stephen doesn't just play guitar, he strives to take us before the throne in worship of our awesome God. Libby, well, she's makin' a list and checkin' it twice (i.e., does a fine job keeping track of attendance and personal info that is essential to the E-Team's success). What we do at BSBC Youth is a team effort -- the only way to do it.

And you teens, you are great! Fun, smart, teachable, bold, and hard-working are a few descriptive words that come to mind. Most of all, those of you who have trusted Christ are children of God, made for His glory! It is truly a joy to work with you and build into you, and see you take steps of faith. All of the leaders desire nothing less than God's best for each of you!

Now let's not all rest on these kind words! Let's use them as fuel to our spiritual fires, that we may burn even brighter for Jesus! Stay strong in Christ, "the bread of life"!

PRASE GOD FOR GETTING US ALL THROUGH ANOTHER YEAR... LETS START OFF FRESH
2007... make the best of it and devote yourself to God, if you missed youth group last night then this is what we did: Clint had us all write down something in our lives that we wanted more help with from God or something along those lines, and that was our new years resolution. I admit, mine is close to the same as last year but oh well, that is just what I need more help with.

I advise you, turn an area of your life sompletely to God, like school, He'll make you feel better about whatever challenges you face.

With Christmas just 5 days away I can't help but look back at all the Christmas's that I have had in the past. The ones where my wish list would be 2 feet long, the one where I would grovel and beg for the new barbie doll that I just had to have because all my friends did too. The Christmas that I would walk past store windows and make a mental list of the toys I wanted that I would never touch again after new years. The cheap toys and gifts I receieved that lasted a week or so then sat and gathered dust. I never really appreciated the Christ in Christmas until last year. I never really fully grasped the concept that Christ was born to die so that we could all one day pray for Him to save our lives. (go listen to "I Celebrate The Day" by Relient K, its the best Christmas song) in my december issue of Brio I saw a really good article that started off like this:

CHRISTMAS IS A GIFT

Chocolate Pudding

Well, hello everyone. I know I don't usually post on here, but I thought that it was high time that I started. I've been thinking for the past few nights on what I should post about, but nothing was coming to mind. Finally, while doing my devotions last night, it just kind of slapped me in the face, "Why not post about patience?!"

I know for me that patience is one of the things that I struggle with the most. (Trust me, living with 3 brothers requires a ton of patience.) It's so easy to get frustrated with the smallest of things and then we end up blowing up at someone that wasn't even involved. I think the lack of patience kind of has consequences in itself. For example, if you're making chocolate pudding, you have to keep the stove at an exact temperature, so that the pudding won't burn on the bottom. On top of that, you have to stand at the stove stirring and stirring and stirring, until the chocolate gets thick. Well, an impatient person would turn the heat all the way up and only stir once in awhile. They would get the pudding cooked faster, but when they go to taste it, it tastes like burnt wood. So in the end, the impatient person would have a fast cooked, but bad tasting pudding, while the patient person would have a slow cooked, but wonderful tasting pudding. (Can you tell that I have personal experience with this? :) ) Anyway, enough about pudding. One night while flipping through my Bible, I came across this verse about patience. I highlighted it, but never paid attention to it until later. Now I have it memorized and I just thought I'd share it with all of you.

"But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." James 1:4

Everytime I just want to give up or yell at someone in frustration, I remember this verse. Basically it's saying that we should let patience do its work, so that we can be made complete, at least in that area of our lives. I know at the moment that it might seem pretty much impossible to have patience, but in Philippians 4:13 it says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I don't know about you, but I would much rather have chocolate pudding, then burnt.

I keep this bible verse in mind each day as I work my way through. It is a nice reminder that we, as Christians have so much more to look forward to after this life is over. It is hepful reminder to me that God has planned this all out and we do not need to look at earthly things to fulfill us, we can look to the things of God. He is truly all we need. everything on earth will pass away, Jesus said so Himself while sitting on the Mount of Olives.

"heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away" (Matthew 24:35)

AHHH SWEET TRUTH! hehe! one day when all of us Christians get caught up in rapture (or die) and go to heaven with Jesus we will be with the unseen, God. so why not look to Him in this life as well? its what we;ve got afterwards. needless to say, I LOVE THIS BIBLE VERSE!

Yes, it's been way too long, but the sidebar is fully updated with details about Youth Group, Sunday School, E-Team, and event info. The Amazing Race is this weekend (see details on side)!! This will be an awesome time. I know this will conflict with Friday Night Football, but please believe me, the sacrifice with be worth it for you AND your friends! Please come!!

We've had quite a summer as a youth group. Firestone outreach, Camp, VBS, Missions week ... it all flew by so fast. I could type a post as long as a football field about all that's happened. In short, I would call it a summer of service. Sure, we had fun, but our focus was not just getting together to have fun, but to reach out to the needy world around us (and I don't mean financially needy!). I thank the Lord for all that He accomplished in us and through us. Let's pray for a great start to the school year, as we seek to shine for Christ together!

The Beginning of Knowledge

Proverbs 1:7 " The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction."

The "fear" spoken of here is a reverance for, or a respect of the Lord. Coming to know the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior not only means you'll spend eternity in heaven, but that you have started the greatest learning experience you'll ever have. Jesus is the greatest teacher we will ever have on how to live our lives. He gives us the blue print on how to be successful in life, which is the Bible. If we don't live as Jesus commands us to live then we are fools living blindly in this world.

Did you ever think...

That something as normal as washing your face, could be an object lesson from God?
Haha well I never did until a few nights ago. I had been crying, & reading my bible for comfort. I decided to get up and wash my face. When I went into the bathroom, I started praying. Praying that God would wash my sadness away the same way i was washing the make-up and tears off my face. God is the Soap. He cleans off the dirt. The water would be fellow chrisitans, who help sharpen you. God is ALSO the towel, drying the water off your face, the same way he whipes off your tears.

YES, i know that was completly cheezy, but hey! It popped into my mind the other night, and i thought I'd share it! =]

Sunday School Follow-up

Hello all -- for your encouragement, here a couple of additional verses and thoughts about our testimonies to a world in need of Christ.

Ephesians 5:15-17 -- "Be very careful, then, how you live"
Titus 2:3-10 -- "so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive" (10)

Philippians 2:14 tells us to "do everything without complaining or arguing". So why is complaining damaging to our testimony? Well, just think -- who is the one who directs our lives and orders our circumstances? God, of course! So when we complain about the things in our lives, we're essentially saying that God is not doing a good job leading our lives. How can you be a testimony to bring a lost person to Christ when your complaining spirit says that that God cannot be trusted to lead your life well? That's why the Philippian believers (and, by extension, US) were urged to get rid of complaining and arguing.

Let's "shine like stars" (Philippians 2:15) for Christ!

Summer To Do's -- Clint's Column for June

Yes, summer is here (has been for a couple weeks). Gone at least for a little while is the daily grind of homework, tests, and such. It's my prayer that all of you have a very fun and safe summer. We have a number of exciting events coming up throughout the summer at youth group. Don't miss them!

On the subject of excitement, that is something that seems to be lacking during at least some parts of a teens' summer. It's amazing how often I get the response "boring" when I ask teens "How's your summer going?" If that's you (or even if you're not bored), I offer this short list of to-do's to cure the boring summertime blues:

1. Commit to daily Bible Study. Yep, daily! Take just a half-hour, and go on an adventure with God! So often, we Christians (me included) think of studying the Bible as a task to check off our list. Think of it as an adventure, where you daily find truth for your life. We grow when we read the Word and put it to work in our lives (1 Peter 2:2), and who doesn't want to grow? Some suggested topics -- Philippians (what we're studying in Sunday School), Acts, John. Or do a character study -- Joseph, Ruth, Nehemiah, Paul, etc.. Or is there a sin pattern or a struggle in your life that you want to get rid of? Look it up in the concordance at the back of your Bible, or ask a youth leader for guidance. Choose your adventure and go for it!

2. Commit to daily prayer. You're probably not surprised by this one! But our prayers are powerful in God's hands (Acts 4:31, James 5:16). There's not we can do by ourselves that can be described as powerful, but prayer is! Pray for friends, family, church, and take your burdens for lifting and your sins for cleansing.

3. Find a way to be a servant. Is there something that needs doing around the house? Do it for God! Or maybe there's someone who lives nearby who could use some help in their yard. Look for ways to use your free time to serve others (Galatians 5:13).

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and memorable summer. Let's all grow in Christ. Don't forget the sunblock, and don't forget the Son!

OK BSBC! I'm actually reading a book, for fun! Anyways, I checked this book called "A Whisper and a Wish" out at the Library. (amazing that I actually entered the Library, I know). I didn't know it was a christian book until I got into like the 2nd chapter. Anyways, it had this amazing example of how Non Christians can pull Christians down through dating. Here's what happened: The sunday school teacher pulled a young girl, and an older stronger boy up to the front of the class. The sunday school teacher started explaining to the class, how it's easier for the non-christian to pull the Christian down, rather than the Christian pulling the Non-christian up. So, to demonstrate this, he had the little girl try to pull the guy towards her, but what actually ended up happening, was the girl was pulled over to the guy. This shows that you're more likely to weaken, than to strengthen a non-christian, and it's totally right!

The truth behind the Davinci Code

Dan Brown's book The Davinci Code is full of lies and deceiptions. It is important for us as christians to get the truth out.

Here are a few of his so called facts that have been proven false.
1) Dan Brown states that the Priory of Sion was established in 1099 to protect the living descendants of Jesus Christ.ACTUALLY: the Priory of Sion was established in 1956 by a man named Pierre Plantard. Pierre did 6 months in prison for fraud before starting the Priory of Sion. He also later came out and stated that all documents he had that established a bloodline of Jesus were false. When these documents were looked over by historians they were indeed found to be false and the paper they were written on was only 40 years old.
2)Dan Brown also says that the followers of Jesus didn't consider Him a God until the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. ACTUALLY: here are some quotes from christian leaders before 325 A.D.:
Ignatius of Antioch- "For our God, Jesus Christ, was conceived by Mary in accord with God's plan: of the seed of David, it is true, but also of the Holy Spirit." (110 A.D.- 215yrs. before the council)
Tertullian- "God alone is without sin. The only man without sin is Christ; for Christ is also God."
(A.D.210- 125yrs. before the council)
Aposle Paul(I Corinthians 8:6)-" yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him." (55A.D.- 280yrs. before the council)

The Jesus of the Davinci Code was just a man, a teacher. He couldn't save us from our sins, or give eternal life. Actually all we have to do is look up John 3:16, Romans 10:9,and 6:23,IJohn 1:9, and IJohn 2:2, Eph. 2:8-10.

It all comes down to this The Davinci Code is man's word. The Bible is God's word. Who are you going to believe and trust?

Tell your friends about the lies, then tell them the truth about Jesus and what He can do for them.

Awareness

I thought that since, atleast so far, nobody has signed up for the weekly column, I would take the initiative and post about something that has touched me in recent days.

Science classes in public schools can be so corrupt, especially when you get to that controversal place on the rubric about human life. In my class, we are studying the solar system. You know, each planet, comets, asteroids, black holes, supernovas, blah blah blah and it just keeps going on and on. The galaxy is an absolutly humongous place, full of awesome and amazing things. But while I sit in class, looking at my classmates in aw of the colorful and astounding photographs of the planets and other elements of the galactic world, all I can think about is my Savior and how God created it all. Every grain of star dust, every gas giant, every retrograde revolution, all of it was planned out by MY AMAZING GOD to be just perfect.

Now, unless you own the Hubble Telescope you probably will never glimpse real, detailed scenes of the outerspace with your own two eyes. But God makes himself real even on planet Earth. In so many ways you can get a taste of God's immense power.

Getting Used to It -- Clint's Column for May

Hello group! Thanks for coming to the blogspot. Keep coming back every once in a while to check it out and be encouraged. And be a part of the action -- sign up on the sheet in the youth room to contribute a column!

We're halfway through the month of May already! Hard to believe. In just a few weeks you all will be out of school and enjoying your summer break. The sidebar has some updates on what is coming our way in June. It should be a great month.

Last weekend, we had 12 teens and 6 adults head to Camp Patmos for our annual work weekend. This time we joined a workforce of many people. Our key verse for the weekend was Colossians 3:23 -- "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." Our group did a great job of working hard at a variety of tasks.

A number of people toiled in the pool during the workday, shoveling out sludge of all sorts throughout the day. The smell was awful!! By the end of the day though, we somehow got a bit used to the stink and the disgusting sights. This made me think of something in the Christian life -- how we can used to the awfulness of sin. Acts and thoughts and words that once seemed disgusting to us can easily become "OK" if we're not careful. The media influences us to think of awful things like premarital sex, drinking, vengefulness, mean words, and the like as if they're OK for us. To be healthy Christians, sin needs to "stink" -- like something we don't want to enjoy or touch.

God's Word tells us that "to fear the Lord is to hate evil" (Proverbs 8:13), and it commands us to "hate what is evil and cling to what is good" (Romans 12:9). Let's keep encouraging each other to desire holiness, and never get comfortable wallowing in the sludge of sin.

Keep Your Eye on the Ball -- Clint's Monthly Column for April

Our webmaster, Elizabeth, has some great ideas on how to get the blog back up and running. I'll be doing a monthly column, plus there will be weekly features from Elizabeth and other teens.

I want to encourage all you youth groupers to be a part of the blog. Read the weekly columns, even sign up to write one! Leave comments! Send the site as a link to your friends, and put it prominently on your blog. I still believe that this site can be an excellent tool to encourage the group, and to reach out to newcomers and friends. The sidebar always has the latest scoop on upcoming events, and interesting links, including how to get saved.

As many of you know, April means the start of baseball season. I grew up playing Little League baseball every summer, and I loved to play. If you've ever played baseball or softball, you probably heard your coach say something like, "keep your eye on the ball" when you were hitting. Keeping your eyes fully focused on the ball is one of the first keys to hitting. You can't hit what you can't see!

Now this has a spiritual application -- we need to keep our eye on the ball, too! We need to be focused on Christ. Hebrews 12:2 says to fix our eyes on Jesus. We need to be focused on Christ -- knowing, serving, and sharing Him -- if our lives are going to be a "hit" for Christ.

Let's keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. It's not easy, as so many other activities and thoughts tend to fill our minds, but we can do it with the Holy Sprit's help. E-Team, stay focused on and ready to fill your roles! An illustration -- two Wednesdays ago, you know that youth group was a bit less than organized and complete, as many were busy filming for the Easter service. Wouldn't you know it, the one night that we were in disarray is the night that at least four visitors came!! I felt bad about that. This shows us that we need to be ready every week and praying every day for God to work in our midst. He will, but we don't know when. Let's be ready!

Speaking of Easter, what a great day it was last Sunday at BSBC! The "Son is Risen" service went wonderfully -- everyone did a great job. The cantata by the choir was also powerful. I believe we were successful in clearly communicating the awesome truth that Jesus is alive! There were several new and likely unsaved people there to take it in. You should all feel proud and honored to be a part of God's work. By the way, we probably haven't seen the last of WBSB 99 Eyewitness News. We may use this program as an outreach to teens next Easter. Christ is risen!!

You can be looking forward to an exciting month of May. We'll be serving Jesus together at the Extreme Makover -- Patmos Edition on May 5 and 6. We'll be having a special night to salute our seniors -- Jimmy, Brittany and D.J. -- and we'll look forward (Lord willing) to a summer to remember!!

A. : Well, I was saved when I was three years old. I prayed with my mom and asked Jesus into my heart. After that I sort of just lived like it was my parent's faith, not my own. Then when I got to college, I had to start to do things on my own, and that's when it became my faith.

Q. : Did you or do you have any Christian inspirations or mentors?
A. : My dad was a big inspiration to me. He was a good Christian and taught me a lot of things. Tim (from camp) also was a big inspiration for me. I also love good Christian books.

Q. :Do you have a favorite Bible verse?
A. :My favorite verse would be Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."

We all have sin in our hearts. We all were born with sin. We were born under the power of sin's control.
Admit that you are a sinner.

Sin has an ending. It results in death. We all face physical death, which is a result of sin.
But a worse death is spiritual death that alienates us from God, and will last for all eternity.
The Bible does plainly teach that there is a place called the Lake of Fire where lost people will be in torment forever.
It is the place where people end up that remain spiritually dead.
Understand that you deserve death for your sin.

Romans 6:23b

"...But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Salvation is a free gift from God to you! We can't earn this gift, but we must reach out and receive it.
Ask God to forgive you and save you.

When Jesus died on the cross He paid sin's penalty. He paid the cosmic price for all sin, and when He took all the sins of the world on Himself on the cross, He bought us out of slavery to sin and death! The only condition is that we believe in Him and what He has done for us, understanding that we are now joined with Him, and that He is our life.
Because He loved us and gave Himself for us!
Give your life to God... His love poured out in Jesus on the cross is your only hope to have forgiveness and change. His love bought you out of being a slave to sin. His love is what saves you. Not religion, or church membership.
God loves you! And reaches you right where you are.

God will help you. Just talk to Him. He loves you.
You need to look for a local church where God's word is preached. The bible says that we are to desire God's word like a newborn baby desires mother's milk.
Aren't you hungry to know the truth?
Water baptism is one of the ways you first show that you have been joined to Jesus. The symbolism is this: When you go down in the water you show that you have been crucified and buried with Him, And when you come up out of the water you show that you have been raised to walk with Him in newness of life. (See Romans chapter 6)
You have been born again. (See John chapter 3) Your body has become God's temple. Your heart is where He lives. Forgiveness is yours in Jesus. And you belong to Him. You were sin's slave. But now...You are a child of GOD!

Missions '06 -- Operation Akron

Hi group, I wanted to post our decision for a missions trip this summer on the blog for all to see. As was announced in Sunday School Jan. 21, we have decided not to pursue a missions trip to Grandview, Washington or Ontario, Canada. The main reasoning behind this decision is that several of the youth leaders had job situations where they could not get away for a week. I want to emphasize that this decision was not from a lack of confidence in the desire, maturity, or ability of you teens. We believe that many of you are ready to take on such a challenge.

That is why we are still having a missions week this summer! "Operation Akron" will be the week of August 14th. We are planning to have a full week of missions activity, with events that will stretch your faith and give you a vision for how you might serve Christ full time as a missionary. Along the way, we will be trusting God to work through us to reach lost sinners all around us and strengthen our church. The only difference is that we will be working here in Akron and the vicinity.

"Operation Akron" will be a week different than anything we've ever done at BSBC Youth. Start getting excited now, and plan to be a part of it! We will be starting the planning for the week very soon. More to come!

Hey group, I was a bit surprised to see that no one is using the Sunday School devotion books. I thought the daily devotions were pretty good. Oh well, that's OK ... as long as you are studying the Bible in some other way on a daily basis. We can't ever forget that we need a steady diet of God's Word. 1 Peter 2:2 says that we should "crave" the Word, "so that by it you should grow in your salvation".

I'm having fried chicken tonight. I love fried chicken and I'm going to be craving it all day at work. Let's ask God to give us a craving for His Word, where we just can't wait to have it. Yeah, this is a good craving ... not only is it much lower in fat and cholesterol than fried chicken, it will enrich your daily life with wisdom and power!

So let's hear from you! Everyone who reads this, leave a comment about your personal devotions -- what are you studying, when and where do you do usually them, and what God is teaching you. You can also share what is difficult for you in studying the Bible if you want. We can encourage each other to "grow in grace and knowledge" (2 Peter 3:18).

The coffee house last night was so much fun! Everyone had a great time, and if you missed it, you missed out!! We played awesome games, like mafia, ping pong, ultimite football...and many many more!! There was a LOT of food, and Vickie's sugar cookies were the BEST! The best part of this whole awesome coffee house, was that we were having fun, but it was clean Godly fun. No pressures, like we have at school!! It was just a fun time! BSBC...I rocks!

There is church Sunday morning at 9:30, and Sunday evening at 6! Come on over!

We had another great CoffeeHouse a couple Fridays ago (December 9th). There were many new faces and everyone had much fun. In addition to the fun we had at the church, the group blessed many homes with the music of Christmas. Last Wednesday, we read Mrs. Barnes' thank you letter for visiting her house. E-Team Applications

Yesterday's Sunday School concluded the formal E-Team training. It was encouraging to hear lots of people asking questions and offering their thoughts on improving the youth group and keeping the E-Team going strong. That showed me that the group is interested in starting an E-Team. I am very excited for what God can do through us in '06.

Just a reminder to please have your E-Team applications turned in by this Sunday (Christmas). So far, I have received 7, so there's still some people we hope to hear from! At the Blastoff '06 meeting on the 28th, we will be announcing the roles of each E-Teamer and praying and planning for a great start to the E-Team on Jan 4.

Have a great, relaxing, safe, and fun Christmas break everyone! Since you all have a well-deserved break from school and studies, be sure to take some of that spare time to draw near to Christ through His Word and prayer. Don't worry, you'll have time to sleep in too!

Go Bucks 2005!

The Adam's hosted the Ohio State Buckeye vs. Michigan victory party this year. With the opening rival kick-off arriving at 1:00 of the P.M., the teens piled into the house around 12:30. Pizza and Kool-Aid were consumed heavily while the Bucks fans (along with a few diehard Michigan lovers) watched the satisfying first half of the game. The living room atmosphere was equiped with chitter-chatter, focused eyes, and a whole lot of "No!!"s and "Whoo!"s. The fellowship was awesome.

Halftime was a time of seriousness for all of the routy football lovers. Bobby K. lead the devotion on what it means to be on the winning team. OSU/UM analogies helped relate the devotions with the game. Soon after, a game of football (to some extent) started in the yard.

Come the second half, the living room was packed again with the television spectators. It was an "emotional rollercoaster" as Michigan pulled ahead of the Bucks, but we finally came back with about 2 minutes on the clock. Hooping and hollering filled the room with the final "4, 3, 2, 1" of the clock. Unfortunatly, not all of us could be happy with the outcome...

The Fall Retreat at Camp Burton was a great success. 14 teens came and had a great time. There were free times with sports of all kinds in the gym, personal devotions, group activities and discussions, inspiring worship music, and devotions. We learned:

What it means to know the leader (personal saving relationship with Christ)
How to follow the leader
How to be a leader for Christ
How to serve with the spiritual gifts God gives each believer

I hope we are taking up our crosses daily, and following Him -- Luke 9:23.

Judgement House

The group went to Judgement House at Grace Brethren Church in Norton on Thursday night. We had an awesome group of 23 teens. The drama, called "Letter of Love", was excellent. I am always impressed by the huge effort that this church puts out to do the drama. I am thinking that they must start working on it full time in March! I thought the most powerful episode was the one where Jesus was being beaten, then whipped and condemned to die ... in my place! It was like "The Passion" right before your eyes.

We can praise the Lord that one of teens that came made the decision to accept Christ's gift of salvation and make Christ the Lord of His life. Bobby, a seventh grader who had just come to the group for the first time at the CoffeeHouse last Friday, is now a Christian, a child of God. The angels were rejoicing in Heaven when that happened (Luke 15:7)! Isn't that awesome to think that the course of Bobby's earthly and eternity changed in one night? Only God knows, but I can't help but think that the fun, clean, and safe atmosphere at the CoffeeHouse the week before planted a positive seed in Bobby's mind. Even though we didn't share the Gospel that night, there was something different about this place. That's what it's all about, group -- at the heart of everything we do is the desire to see teens saved from eternal darkness and brought into the wonderful light of Christ.

I have experienced many exciting times in my life. Probably the most excting times have been getting engaged and married to Kristen, and seeing our three beautiful children being born. But there is nothing, not even OSU pounding Michigan :), absolutely nothing more exciting than seeing someone get saved. It's like seeing someone being born, not physically but spiritually. I hope that we as a group, adults and teens alike, develop an "addiction" to seeing people saved in our midst. That we could never get enough of seeing God work in our lives and using us to expand His kingdom. Even though we are all different in many ways, we can share that common desire.

So, i was doing my devotions last night, and i was reading about worldy things, and Godly things. The next section was called "Purity in Relationships" It seemed normal...and i was ready for it, and so i read the first paragraph. It made me sad. It really, just was very upsetting, and disturbing. Here it is:

Purity in Relationships
Have you heard the saying, "Friends can make you or breka you"?The two most critical and improtant influences that we face as young women are our friendships and our dating relationships. The most common reason Christians lose their salvation is that they are hanging out with non-Christians or they are dating the wrong men."

That last sentance. Totally wrong. You CANNOT lose your salvation. Once you're God's child, you're always God's child. There is NOTHING you can do to make God stop loving you or caring for you!!

NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR SALVATION FROM YOU! ONCE GOD IS IN YOUR HEART, HE'S THERE FOREVER.

Before We went to the FFH concert (which rocked!), Mr.Victor gave a good idea. AFter seeing all that Katrina has done to Louisiana and Alabama, we should have a carwash to raise money to send to them. Well tonight we started a back-2-school lesson. Back to school...great, right? NO! But we have to do our best anyways. There are things we need to avoid in school! Here are some examples:

The Summer Sunday at Libby's was great time. First, we all got into the different youth leader vans and headed out into the country until we got to her house. We all went into the backyard to see James kindling the fire. We all got our sticks and 'dogs and began cooking. Quite a few turned out black, but they were good anyways. Then along came the s'mores. There is just nothing like a graham cracker, marshmallow, and Hershey bar all put together. After we ate, we talked and then came the songs. I heard numerous songs that we never sing at church anymore. It was nice to hear them again. Testimonies were given about camp, spiritual growth, and the desire to stay strong for Christ. Soon, the night was over and we all got in the vans to drive home. One van had singing aaall the way back to Akron. DJ enjoyed the continuous, nonstop singing the most. :)

I know I can't wait for the next youth event "The Amazing Race" on Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 and ending at 10:00. Sure to be a good time.

I found out yesterday that one of my best friends drinks sometimes. Only when she's really sad, but it still bugs me. I'm scared for her, but more scared for me, because I'm easily persuaded by her. What should I do to help here, and still keep away from her ideas?
If God wants us to be happy and healthy, then why does He allow painful things into our lives?

Vacation Bible School

This week is Vacation Bible School. Wow, it always comes up so fast. This past Wednesday the youth group passed out flyers and made chalk decorations outside of the church promoting VBS. The theme this year is "Jersalem Marketplace," and there are different themes for each day.

Monday - Jesus is King
Tuesday - Jesus Showed God's Love
Wednesday - Jesus Loves Us
Thursday - Jesus Died For Us
Friday - Jesus Lives

VBS is Monday-Friday this week from 6:30-8:30 P.M. Be in prayer for VBS this week. Pray for Kelly, the director, as she has headed up VBS and has worked hard for it's success. The Staff which includes Tribe Leaders, Assistant Tribe Leaders, Drama Team, and all other workers that they will be used to glorify Him and to let His light shine to the children throughout the week. Also that the workers will have patience in the week. Pray for the children that will come that the unsaved will be saved and that the Christians will be strengthened up in the faith. Basically be in prayer and help out wherever you can.

Time to Shine

It seems that our overnighter last Friday was a success. We had 16 teens out (the most for any event this summer), and everyone had a great time. God answered our prayers to hold off the rain while we were at Rinky Dink, and the teens and leaders about drove the tires off those go-karts (the brakes were not tired at all!). Many in the group also enjoyed putt-putt, batting cages, and DDR.

Back at the Kozy's, we unveiled Glow Ultimate Frisbee and everyone enjoyed it (except for Ty's nose ... sorry!). There was also much jumping, wrestling, and laughing in the pool, and the night was capped off by a Mafia marathon.

"Shine" has been a recurring theme this summer -- mainly at Camp Patmos, but also at our Firestone Park outreach and after Glow Ultimate. God wants us to be His light in this world. Just like we looked for the light to know where to throw the frisbee, some people lost in the darkness of sin will look for the light to escape the darkness.

Witnessing

While spending the night at Emily's, we watched the movie "Left Behind". That's a Tribulation movie that really makes me anxious for the Rapture, more so than usual. Although, I think it would be cool to be on Earth while all of God's prophecies come true, like the rebuilding of Soloman's temple, peace, the rise of the Anti-Christ. Don't get me wrong, I am very glad I won't be experiencing the Tribulation.
It also makes you want to witness. I really realized how stuck up I can be sometimes in the fact that I feel too shy to witness. Those people out there need me to lead them to Christ and I won't do it because I am afraid? I mean, of course the world will laugh at me and try and tear me down mentally, but why should that phase me? I have the Creator, the Father, my Father, behind me 1000%. He is pleased with those who witness. It is a commandment and I need to fulfill it. I need not to be ashamed (Romans 1:16).
As a youth group, we have gone out many times to witness to non-believers. During that time, I feel really pumped up and excited to share the Gospel. But when it comes down to witnessing by myself, I am not as pumped up and excited. I am scared, nervous, and shy. Many times a great opportunity has dropped right on my lap and I let it slip away. I have to realize that I am not always going to have fellow Christians around to help me and "motivate" me to reach out. I need to be prepared. Everything I need I am able to access in the Bible. God has prepared everything (Heb. 11:3)
Another part of witnessing I myself need to work on is living for Him through my actions. I want people to look at me and say "Hey, she's different. No matter what the circumstance, she always seems to have peace. She is a good person who obviously is confident about her life." That is another great way to draw people to Christ. If they see you as a person worth exemplifying, they will want to be like you. They will be attracted to you and your lifestyle. If you try and witness to somebody and they remember the language you use, your gestures, actions, and emotions that are not attractive, why would they want to be like that? They will think that God is just an inconvenience and a bother. That He makes you into some depressed person. But that's not true and they need to see and realize how exciting it is to be a child of God.
As my Dad tells me, witnessing should become habit. A good habit. We should pray to God saying that we are available. That He would bring the perfect opportunity into our life that we may witness. I mean, we shouldn't be like "Oh, who should I witness to today?" and then draw somebody's name from a hat. No. God will bring us the opportunity to witness in His perfect timing. And with that, we should all be ready to witness with courage, confidence, and God right next to us.

The whole song tells about how we, humans, are nothing without God. I never really meditated on the lyrics before now. As I let them sink in I realized how true this actually is! Without God, we wouldn't even be in exsistance, not even a poof of an ash. Tonight in youth group, we went upstairs for prayer meeting. Mr. Blasdel taught about humbleness. In the beginning of this song, it talks just about that. How we can't even praise God to all that he is worthy of.

Nasty Comments

It has been unfortunate to see this week some nasty comments being added to our posts. As a result, we are forced restrict ability to add comments to only members of this blog. I regret to do this, because I don't want to shut anyone out, but we cannot be a good testimony when there is wickedness on the site.

For those who left the comments, if you return to our site, please know that we love you and God loves you too -- more than you can imagine. But know also that God is the seer of all deeds, and that He will hold you accountable for yours: "Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement." (Hebrews 9:27). You have taken a beautiful thing that many teens have worked hard to develop and spoiled it. Shame on you. It was a "blast"!

A good time was had by all at the Firestone Fireworks Outreach last Saturday. We hung out at the Adams' house and had pizza, then walked to the park to share the good news of Jesus with the people at the festival. At least 40 people heard the Gospel through our efforts. No one that we know of was saved, but perhaps a seed of truth was planted that will someday result in salvation. We do know that we can "always give (ourselves) fully to the work of the Lord, because (we) know that (our) "labor in the Lord is not in vain" -- 1 Corinthians 15:58.

After walking back to the Adams' for rest and refreshments, we walked (notice the walking theme) to the fireworks. Some played catch with anything they could find, while others sat and talked. The fireworks were great, especially the big "ka-booms" at the end.

Lord willing we'll do it again next year. In the meantime, let us not be "ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone" (Romans 1:16).

Elizabeth had the following comment:

Actually, one woman that my group (myself, emily, and tylesha) talked to professed her salvation. Yes, that was a fun time and I look forward to next year. It just makes you feel good when you witness.

Let's be praying for our Senior Highers as they head off to Camp. Pray for safety, good weather, great memories, and for God to get a hold of their hearts and work powerfully.

It's a little late to try this since they're leaving tomorrow, but we'll give it a shot. Here's a group prayer project idea for the junior highers and those not going to Camp. Pick a camper and commit to praying for them specifically by name at least once a day this week. You may even want to ask them today if there are any special requests you can lift up for them. Coordinate with your friends to make sure everyone is getting prayed for by at least one person. Your prayer buddy options are:

Hey All!
I've been given responsibility for wednsday night youth bloggin...so.......
Today was an AWESOME night in youth group! First, we had our lesson, with Kristen teaching. She taught us from the book of thessalonians...because we are doing book study on it. We learned about sexual purity last week, brotherhood this week, and heartworking! It was awesome! Than we went to Hammel street, and told everyone that hasn't been coming to youth group, to come back, and we miss them! And we gave them a schedual for the summer. I love our youth group, because of the encouragment, how loving everyone is, how we're all a family, and how much everyone loves God. If you're having a bad day, all you need to do is come to one youth event, and you'll have a good rest of the day. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

School's Out Picnic!! :)

Yesterday evening the youth group had their traditional schools out picnic. They had this even though some schools weren't out yet, but thats another story ;). Anyway, it was a lot of fun. When we first got to church I know I was thinking, "Yea, it's hot out but it won't be thhhhaat bad." Boy, was I wrong. :)

First of all we all ate fantastic hamburgers cooked by, none other but, Clint. They were soo good. There was also a lot of other good food there, too. We all sat around talking while we ate. It was, and always is, nice to be around Christian's for conversation. Then came the GAMES......

The first game we played was Ultimate Frisbee. Now, let me tell you, that is a lot harder than Ultimate Football. The frisbee is quite a bit harder to throw, and catch. Plus, it doesn't always go in the direction you would like it to. So we made our little field out of bases, shoes, balls, and leaves for the sidelines and endzones. Time for the draft...:) It was myself and my sister, Elizabeth for team captains. After we thoughtfully chose our teams, the game began. I know quite a few people who were quite competitive, including myself. There were many interesting plays during that game. Somehow one of the one my team did worked and I scored a touchdown. HaHa there was this one play where Beth smacked down the frisbee just as I was about to take it to the endzone. Like I said, our Brown Street Teens know how to be competitive and make a game real fun. During this time we are all BAKING in the hootttttttttttt sun. The game was over, although some would have liked to play some more so they could redeem themselves.. "Team A," 4 points. "Team E," 3 points. We got a long water break with just about everyone soaking themselves with cold water. The heat couldn't stop us though! Next was an exciting game of Monarchy, with in the end, Philip winning. Fun game but it was hard to play with a little nerf football.

Then was a time to rest. Clint passed out the summer events card and also the $40 gift certificate for the winner of the Quiz Bowl. We talked about the events comming up, and then just chilled until it was time to go home.

So, that was the picnic. I cant wait until next years! :) COMMENT ON HOW MUCH FUN THE PICNIC WAS FOR YOU!!

You all probably already know it, but there is a Youth Council of your peers at BSBC Youth. The council is selected by the Youth Group leaders based on observed faithfulness and a desire to honor and serve Christ. The council is there to serve the group by being a Christ-like example and providing leadership and encouragement in the group. They also join with the leaders to plan events and discuss issues in the group.

The key verse of the Youth Council is 1 Timothy 4:12 - Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

GOING TO CHURCH DOES NOT MAKE YOU A CHRISTIAN ANYMORE THAN GOING TO THE GARAGE MAKES YOU A CAR!

I saw this quote and kind of chuckled, but it's the truth. So many people these days think that "Hey, I'm a regular church goer so I'm alright. I'm going to Heaven..." It makes me sad because so many of my friend's go to church on a weekly basis and come to school cussing and being crass. One of them went to a church oriented Christian camp, got baptized, and is still blind towards Christ. So how are we supposed to help make them see? First and number 1, ya gotta pray to God about it and ask that He will make them see your choice of actions and help them be able to receive it with willing ears. Secondly, don't act like they might. Stand up for Christ by acting wholesomely and Godly. Meaning, when they see your behavior, God will spark their interest and make them wonder what's different in your life and why you have so much JOY. Study His word so that you will be prepared for their questions when they ask you about it or when you find the opportunity to witness to them yourself.

This past Wednesday, Clint asked us teens if we had any suggestions for Wednesday devotions after 1 Thess. Audrey came up with on how to be a 24/7 Christian, not just the Sunday/Wednesday type. I know I defiantly need some help in that area and am egger to find out way's to make me a full-time, devoted child of God.

For those of you who dont know the point is that everyone of us needs Jesus. As Clint used a perfect metaphor for Jesus as he called him the password to heaven. Which he really is. So what's the point was held up at Cedar Point. The guy who spoke at the rally had an expiring testimony. It was awesome to see how God worked in his life. Well after the rally came the rides. Mostly everyone started out small as some of us took to the Iron Dragon, and some went to the Corkscrew. After that we met up at the Mean Streak. No line whatsoever, we got a couple rides in. Then after that we were on a scavenger hunt for something of importance that was missing around the mean streak entrance. It took all of us, even me to tell the people that we weren't stupid but we just lost something, to find it. From there the majority took out Gemini and Magnum. Some of elected to keep it cool and calm at first as they took to the sky for a nice view of the park. After that it was time to go get some lunch. Then some of us choose a nice train ride, along with the Gemini, the Gemini was like the only ride everyone went on. Well a huge number of 8 of us waited what seemed an eternity in the hot sun just for the ride they call Millennium Force. Few of us had our doubts about if it was worth the wait, but once we went down that 310 foot drop there were no doubts anymore. I probably speak for all of us when I say "THAT WAS THE BEST RIDE IN THE PARK, PROBABLY EVER." After that our day was complete, but the rides didn't stop, there was Magnum one more time, Raptor, and anything else we felt like taking out. When all is said in done, this was one of the best youth events of all time.

We have been talking quite a bit the last couple months about reaching out for Christ (262 evangelism, etc.). These verses really hit me. I have to ask myself and you all, how deeply do we care about the lost around us? When we think of people dying in sin (like we read in John 8 last week), it has to touch us (even to the point of tears), and move us to show and tell them about Christ. So when we pray about "the empty chairs" and such, we're not praying to have a bigger group just to have a bigger group -- we're praying for the chance to change someone's eternity for the good -- Heaven! I believe that these verses promise us that we will rejoice to see people saved in our midst if we pray hard and sow often. Let's go, BSBC Youth!!

Camp Patmos Work Weekend '05

The teens just got back from Camp Patmos. We all had a really great and enjoyable time. When we first got to the camp, they had made pizza for us and we ate over by the bonfire because they are renovating the dining hall. We sang worship songs and talked with eachother. Then we headed into our cabins and unpacked. Finger rockets and basketball were the main events of the evening along with sitting on cement benches talking away until bed time.We woke up bright and early to have a wonderful scrambled egg breakfast before getting our chores for the day. We all began in the chapel cleaning: sweeping, moping, washing chairs, ect. Then we split up into different places. Some of the things we accomplished were loading, transporting, and unloading a forest worth of branches, vacuming the pool, burning wood, cleaning cabins, washing two vans, shoveling dirt, getting out bicycles, scrapping out the deep freezers, and many more. We all had a fun time working and some even managed to get a nice tan. We are just thankful enough to be able to serve the Lord in any way possible.

The name of Pastor's sermon this morning was called "SO RUN!" That screamed to me for some reason, when I first saw it. It made me curious of what he was going to talk about. What he did was compare an athelete, actually a runner, to the christian walk. He talked about how the runner has to know how to do his sport, where as we, as christians need to know how to witness and walk with God. We need to run the Christian race.

He had 5 rules for running (the christian race)

Remember the examples. The examples of God's people in the bible believed and walked with God.
Keep on going. You should run with patience. Don't slow down, and be persistant.
Stay on Course. God has a course for each one of us. If you don't know your course, ask him! Stay on your track! Don't take shortcuts! If you cheat in an actual race, and cut through the middle, you will be disqualified. In the christian race, you have another chance.
Stay in Shape. Get rid of any weights that hinder your walk with God. God tells us to rid sin from out lives. If there is something in your life that is hindering your walk with God, than you need to leave that behind. Sin and weights are not the same thing.
Keep your eye on the goal. Keep your eyes fixed on God, and don't look around at sinful things.

So, if you missed today's morning service, that's what we learned. You can still come to the evening service. The even service starts at 6:00 pm, and ends at 7:00 pm! Come on over, we'll welcome you!

1st Annual Parent appreciation Night

Tonight was the first Parent appreciation Night. The teens brought their parents, siblings, grandparents, and other close family to join the fun. We kicked off the night with a delicious dinner consisting of fried chicken, jojos, salad, and punch. After dinner, the families went into the youth room and were updated on what has been going on in youth group. We then played "IQ", the test of math and logic, and the parents beat the teens with a score of 4 1/2 to 4. We then went into the game room and played two rounds of the all popular "monarchy" with the teens winning the first time, and the adults winning to second. After this tiring game, we were able to sit down and play "electric fence" with, again, the adults winning.
Even though the adults proved they were a little better at the games, we all had a fun time and look forward to the 2nd Annual Family appreciation Night.
